Finally a Prime Minister who thinks local

For an overwhelming part of Indian post-independence history, we've had terribly anglicized Prime Ministers.

"Galbraith, I'm the last English ruler of India," Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wryly told the American ambassador. (link)
i say 'terribly' because they had no/tenuous connect to Indian thought or culture.

So it was refreshing to see this:

"Modi signed on the visitors' book in Gujarati, writing 'Obeisance to the goddess, obeisance to the swamy'," (link)
Wonder if he is the first Prime Minister (maybe after L.B.Shastri) to think and read/write publicly in an Indian language.
