Happy Deepavali

May this year be filled with light for all of you. Be Good. Do Good.

I know this comes late but try not to burst those horrendous crackers. Light not bad sound. In the US thankfully you can't even if you wanted to - try bursting a 'Laxmi bomb' or 'Rasi bomb' and next you'll find 500 red crosshair images and choppers above you wanting to take you out like hell.

There's a beautiful temple in Flint, Michigan (called Paschima Kasi!) which i visited today thanks to the initiative by some friends.
Was a nice experience. No crowds - just one gentleman meditating in a corner. The fragrance of camphor and flowers just like back home. Fall colours. Uplifting Vedic chanting - a very helpful, pleasant and learned priest. Was all nice. The Priest invited us for a special Divali puja (worship) that was being organized today but couldn't stay back : had to get back - WORK!

Finally, please do watch this beautiful Deepavali commercial (and this too if you can please)

There are some other very touching and meaningful Petronas commercials there that you might be interested in viewing.

And finally, finally : it is Deepavali not Deepawali (though have tagged this post as both). No big deal but i thought i'll chip in with that. As Sri Chandrasekharendra Sarasvati remarks, the 'w' sound is like when you say 'water'. The 'v' sound is different - as in 'Vani (Sarasvati)'.

Dipawali ki shubh-kamanayen. Noise pollution has been reduced considerably this year... thanks to the 'jagruti' at School level… and I guess, Inflation takes care of the rest!

Sharan Sharma said...

Thanks Sandeep. And talking of Jagruti, i read about how that school in Bombay asked kids not to birst crackers but donate that money to the school!

ever since above 90 db crackers were banned here (not that that stopped anything) people have started experimenting with lights and different kinds of fireworks. And this year, the prices here went down an incy wincy little bit, so we had a beautiful display. Plus, our bengali kali pujo and diwali fell on the same day, which doesn't usually happen, so everything was extra special.

and my dog hid in between the kitchen shelves again. :)

Hi Aarshi, long time!

Yes, dogs have a bad time (and their owners more so!)...the dogs on our street used to go completely berserk...

I didn't know crackers above a certain db were banned...so i guess they ban a type of cracker (eg. Laxmi bomb :))...wonder how they monitor it though (or maybe this is another corruption pretext)

Kshitij L said...

Yep, it's a corruption pretext. 90% of things done by the Bharat Sarkar are for the benefit of its employees.

The bureaucracy is constantly expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.

And sharan (and anyone else here who wants a fellow desi to win a contest), visit this page and leave a comment to show your support.

Hi Ksjitij,
I'll definitely visit the page and 'put vote'!

The Petronas commercials are great Sharan....obviously intended for the tamilian population in Malaysia right?

Hi Ajith,
Yes, the diwali ones would be made primarily for the tamil ppln...interestingly, they have other ads where other communities are central...
